OMG! Original BLOG POST LOST! Let's try this again - I want (NEED) technical support!
Last Friday I was at my daughters' school picnic and gleefully showed off and shared my new tableware. Amidst the oohs and ahhs, I heard several replies of "Oh I didn't know you were doing tableware now." I am not "doing" the tableware, my licensee is (manufacturing it that is). I created the art, but it manufactures the product and distributes it.
What the heck is "art licensing" anyway? (HINT: read this all the way thru to learn how to win my brand new note cards (4 sets), and a cup of LOVE). As an artist (the licensor), I create art, and own the copyrights to all the art, regardless of how it is used. Through my agents, the art I create is licensed to manufacturers (the licensee) who produce the beautiful products we purchase in our home dec and gift stores. Simply, this means permission is given by the artist to the manufacturer to use the artist's artwork on the manufacturer's product.
Here's an example with my Coco Collection
I create the flat art, which then gets licensed to manufacturers like Webster's Pages and Highland Graphics (among others) for scrapbooking/paper arts, tumbled stone coasters (and pillows, throws, etc.).
And another example with my Feather Your Nest Collection -
again, I create the flat art, then it gets licensed to different manufacturers for a variety of products such as these little pretties . . .
(and much, much more, I am soooo excited at what's to come)
Artist and manufacturer (Licensor and Licensee) enter into a contractual agreement regarding terms and use of art, the manufacturer produces the product and distributes it to reatailers to be sold, both domestically and often times world wide. (We like world wide distribution). The manufacturer then pays royalties to the artist based upon sales of the licensed product and it becomes a win/win arrangement for all parties.
You and I then get to shop for beautiful home dec, gift, and stationery products with a variety of artistic styles that appeal to our personal taste.
So the next time you are shopping, pick up a product you like, turn it over to see who the copyright belongs to (the artist if it's a licensed product) and who the uber fantastic manufacturer is. It's fun to see that you may actually find yourself drawn to certain artists' work and not yet have realized it.
Talk about fantastic manufacturers, I am over the moon in love with my brand new products from CR Gibson. A couple weeks ago I received several BIG boxes of my artsits samples (loud squeals of delight and glee were shared between my daughters and me as we opened box after box). I want to share this with you, my blog readers, and faithful fans who have followed me since my scrapbooking products helped launch Webster's Pages craft division in 2007 and my licensing career.
I want to share my blessings with you and give you the opportunity to win 4 beautiful sets of my note cards and a cup of Love (shown in this pic).
Simply leave your comment here, and post this pic along with my blog link on your blog inviting your readers to visit and do the same. No Blog, no problem, still leave a post including your email address :o)
On Good Friday (evening) I will randomly select 2 winners, and your goodies will be shipped this weekend.
What a lovely gift this would make: simply wrap just one set of boxed notes with the coffee cup in tulle with a shimmery satin ribbon - and of course a Terri Conrad Designs die cut tag to top it off - ooh!
Share the LOVE and win - surround your every thought and embrace your every action in its sweetness.
Thank you, each of you, for your faithfulness - blessings to each of you.
P.S. I am pleading, bribing & sweet talking my web guys to finish my new web site so I can throw a launch party. Hmm - I always love throwing a party. Stay posted because soon, very soon Terri Conrad Designs will have a shiny new dress to wear and we're just gonna have to celebrate!
xoxo
Terri
